Large Format Graphics for ZSL's Whipsnade Zoo’s brand new Butterfly House
We’ve made a few trips to Whipsnade Zoo lately; the most recent visit was to complete the installation of the display works we produced for the brand new Butterfly House, one of the largest butterfly biomes of any zoo in the UK. The house forms the shape of a Chrysalis and features over 30 different butterfly species from around the world.
Having successfully completed the hoarding graphics for the zoo in previous months, we were approached again by ZSL to supply the graphics for the huge butterfly wing sitting on the side of the building, as well as signage and integrated graphics to feature throughout the exhibition.
The Wing Graphic
We used a high quality self-adhesive strong vinyl over laminate that conformed well to the ridged panelled surface we were applying it to. This was the first time we had used this material on such a large scale measuring 11 x 6 metres; the cherry picker came in very handy.
We also completed the signage for the entrance to the Butterfly House. For the main sign above the door, we printed, then routed plywood lettering which we then layered using two pieces to create a drop shadow effect. We applied one–way vision graphics to the entrance doors.
As you walk through the entrance doors, the vibrant printed digital wallpaper leads you to a world of butterflies.
Your first encounter, also home to the Butterfly House is a West African Dwarf Crocodile. The wall mural, acting as an information source to learn about about how these small reptiles have come under threat from habitat destruction, over-hunting and pollution.
As you wander through the exhibit you will find Spotter’s Guides that we printed direct to polypropylene to help identify the hundreds of butterflies in the Butterfly House.
Integrated Signage - Infographics
You will also find infographics that we printed onto plywood in different shapes and sizes mounted on posts throughout the butterfly domain.
The Butterfly House opened up to the public late May, it's a wonderful place for families to go to and a chance to get up close to some of nature's most beautiful creatures.
